The story began in 1835 in Villanova i la Geltrú, a quaint fishing village in Spain, approximately 50 kilometers from Barcelona. The Giró family had a vision: with the foundation of Destilerías MG, they aimed to create the best syrups and horchatas in all of Spain.
In Spain, the term "horchata" generally refers to any beverage made from crushed fruits, nuts, or seeds. It was almost half a century later that Destilerías MG expanded into the production of simpler spirits and liqueurs, symbolizing the innovative spirit of the Giró family. In 1923, the range was broadened to include more complex spirits. In 1940, the company introduced one of the first Spanish gins, crafted using the traditional London Dry Gin method with copper stills and handpicked berries from their own juniper bushes. This was the birth of Gin MG, which remains one of the most popular gins in Spain to this day.
In 1982, the gin portfolio was expanded with the introduction of Master's, another gin also produced as a London Dry Gin. However, the major international breakthrough for Destilerías MG came in 2010, when Marc and Manuel Giró created Gin Mare, a gin that, like no other, embodies the Mediterranean lifestyle.
