Château Smith Haut Lafitte

Details

Today, as a Cru Classé, Château Smith Haut Lafitte is one of the most brilliant examples of success in recent Bordeaux history. Florence and Daniel Cathiard (a Parisian family that had become very wealthy) bought the somewhat run-down Château Smith Haut Lafitte from the long-established Eschenauer family in 1991 (after it had been owned by the Germans until the end of the war). Meticulous work and a fierce selection process in the vineyard, combined with large investments in the cellar, have brought Château Smith Haut Lafitte today among the top five in the appellation, the unfortunately almost always sold out white wine is the best in Bordeaux after Haut-Brion and Laville. The long established organic farming of the vines was officially certified in 2019. Today, Château Smith Haut Lafitte is once again one of the appellation's top producers and its red and white wines enjoy an international reputation.
