Château Lamothe-Cissac

Details

Château Lamothe-Cissac is part of the Domaines Fabre, owned by the Fabre family, and is located near Cissac in the heart of the renowned Haut-Médoc region, not far from the prestigious appellations of Saint-Estèphe and Pauillac. For over 100 years, the estate has held the esteemed Cru Bourgeois classification – a testament to its consistent quality and long-standing tradition. The 33 hectares of vineyards are evenly divided between the communes of Cissac and Vertheuil. The terroir features a mix of clay-limestone soils and gravelly terrain – ideal conditions for cultivating the classic Médoc grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon (73%), Merlot (20%), Petit Verdot (5%), and Cabernet Franc (2%). The average vine age is around 30 years. The area surrounding the château has been recognized for its winegrowing potential since Roman times – a fact supported by archaeological remains such as a nearby Roman villa. In 1964, Gabriel Fabre acquired the estate and initiated a complete revitalization: the vineyards were entirely replanted, and the winery buildings were fully reconstructed. Since 1991, his son Vincent Fabre has been at the helm, continuing the legacy with a strong commitment to blending tradition with modern winemaking excellence.
