In 1810, the estate was founded by Marquis de Ségur, who, due to financial difficulties, soon had to sell it to the businessman Frank Phélan. This led to the name of the winery that is still used today. It was Monsieur Phélan who had the magnificent, stately Château built.
After many changes of ownership, the winery came into the possession of Xavier Gardinier. However, in 1983 he suffered a severe blow and a financial disaster because the vintage was contaminated with herbicides. Over the decades, the Gardinier family managed to pull the company out of the red and restore its quality.
For many years now, Veronique Dausse has been the Managing Director of Phélan Ségur. The Gardinier family followed her momentum and expertise, as did the new owners Pierre and Philippe Van de Vyvere, who acquired the winery in 2018. Together with vineyard manager Luc Peyronnet and cellar master Fabrice Bacquery, the entire team works tirelessly to make the wines of Phelan Segur a worldwide synonym for elegance, finesse, and balance.
