Chateau d'Issan is certainly one of the most famous wineries in the Medoc. It is located in the appellation Margaux in the village of Issan, after which the winery is also named. Since 1855 it is classified as 3eme Cru.
Here, everything is still done in the traditional way, from the label to the vinification. For years, the neighbor of Château Palmer, to which a certain stylistic affinity cannot be denied, has been on a steep ascent.
This third growth has a rather cooler, but classic gravel-sand terroir, which can be quite helpful in times of climate change. In cool and wet years, d'Issan can turn out a bit green and uninteresting, but in great and warm years, which are currently frequent, it can - like some other colleagues in Margaux also - to great form. So even if the label seems classic to old-fashioned, the wine gets better from year to year.
