Details

Romantic river valleys, steep vineyards and sunny hillsides - viticulture has shaped a special cultural landscape in its 2000-year tradition in Germany. The moderately warm climate gives the grapes a long ripening period. This makes many wines particularly aromatic. Germany also has an abundance of interesting grape varieties, a good part of them bred here, but it is above all a Riesling country: the "queen" of grape varieties has a more than 20% share in the total German vineyards. According to the German Wine Law of 1994, the production of quality wine in Germany is distributed over 13 specific growing areas, which are geographically precisely delineated. These are Ahr, Baden, Hessian Mountain Road, Franconia, Middle Rhine, Moselle, Nahe, Rheingau, Rheinhessen, Palatinate (until 1992 Rheinpfalz), Württemberg, Saale-Unstrut and Saxony. Each growing areas is divided into regions. Vineyard area: approx. 102,000 ha | Annual production: approx. 10 Mhl
