The tradition of growing wine exists within the Sabathi family already since 1650. The grand innovation and significant upturn were in 1992 – Erwin Sabathi (10th generation) took over the then existing establishment. On this base he founded his own winery and the famous brand name “Erwin Sabathi”. Today the organic certified winery is in the hands of Erwin and his wife Patrizia. Despite contemporary technology, sustainable cultivation of the vineyards through a great deal of manual labor is indispensable, due to the extremely steep vineyards. Patrizia and Erwin Sabathi philosophy is based on the origin of the wine and the work of nature: all grapes hand-picked, all vineyards managed according to organic guidelines, all wines fermented exclusively with natural yeasts. Southernmost Ried of Styria and most steep areas, slopes of over 75%, labor-intensive manual work, very calcareous soils and a very special white wine terroir underline the uniqueness of the Erwin Sabathi winery. “Our wines reflect our terroir.”
