Schloss Gobelsburg

Details

Schloss Gobelsburg – Wine Heritage of Austria The history of the winery is closely intertwined with the Cistercian monks from Zwettl Abbey who originated from Burgundy. In 1171, they received their first vineyards on the famous Heiligenstein. With 850 years of winemaking history, the winery is now one of the leading establishments in Austria. In 1996, Michael Moosbrugger took over the responsibility for the winery. Under his leadership, Schloss Gobelsburg has gained an outstanding reputation and is now recognized as one of the finest wineries in Austria and worldwide. The commitment of Michael and Eva Moosbrugger extends beyond the winery. They are members of the Austrian Traditional Wine Estates (ÖTW) and advocate for the promotion and protection of Austria's typical regional wines. The Moosbruggers carry on the tradition of Schloss Gobelsburg while further developing it with their expertise and innovative spirit. They strive to fully utilize the potential of the Danube region and its unique terroirs to produce wines of the highest quality. The vineyards are meticulously tended to, from pruning to leaf work, and the grapes are hand-picked and carefully transported in small crates to the cellar, where they undergo further sorting. Simplicity and rigor are guiding principles of the Cistercians, pointing the way to great wines. Time has become a scarce commodity nowadays, but the Gobelsburg wines are granted the luxury of slowly unfolding in the cool cellars at their own pace.
